The common name is Eriocaulon from the Greek erion(wool) and kaulos(plant stem). The leaves of this plant are thin and grass like 1/2"-4" and is almost translucent. The stem of this plant is single, leafless and has 5-8 ridges. It is mostly 1-8" tall and it can extend 6'-9' in deep water. The roots are fleshy. The roots are jointed and essentially unbranched. The flowers are small and white and are grouped and they are 4mm-6mm at the tip of the stem. The seed of this flower is light brown and 0.5mm long. It is tiny and white. Its distribution is Labrador to Minnesota, south to North Carolina and Northern Indiana. It is usually found in wet sandy soils, ponds, ditches etc.
