COMMON NAME: Loggerhead
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Caretta caretta
REMARKS:
The loggerhead sea turtle is found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans and the Mediterranean Sea.
In Georgia, they typically nest on the barrier island beaches from May to July. Average incubation is 53 days.
The sex of the hatchlings is determined by the temperature of the nest; warmer nests yield females, cooler nests yield males
Shrimping, pollution and loss of beach nesting habitat have led to them being designated an endangered species
